Cold-Shooting Fighting Scots Drop 74-47 Decision to Gannon in EUknighted Game

EDINBORO, Pa. – Cold shooting would doom Edinboro over the final ten minutes as the Fighting Scots fell to Gannon, 74-47, on Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The contest was the second of the two EUknighted games with the two schools raising money for the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home.

Edinboro would suffer its tenth straight loss and is now 5-14 on the season, along with a 2-13 record in PSAC West action. Gannon has won four straight contests to improve to 11-9 and 10-6, respectively.

The final score wasn't indicative of how close the game was – until the last ten minutes. Edinboro rallied from 12 points down at 46-34 with 13:39 remaining to pull to within 48-42 when Anthony Coleman scored on a layup at the 10:06 mark. Coleman was playing for the first time after missing five straight games with an injury.

At one point, Gannon outscored Edinboro 26-2 until Steven Freeman hit a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining.  Prior to that, the Fighting Scots made just 1-of-15 shots as Gannon pulled away.

Edinboro would finish with 17 points in the second half, the fewest points in a half this year. They went 5-of-35 from the floor and ended the game with a season-low 24.1 percent (14-of-58). That included a 5-of-32 figure on 3-pointers, while making 14-of-19 free throws. Gannon shot 43.3 percent from the floor (26-of-60), making 6-of-19 3-pointers, and was 16-of-23 at the line.

The Golden Knights held a 50-33 rebounding edge, and also led 36-tp-16 in points in the paint. Edinboro committed 16 turnovers and Gannon 14.
Turner Kurt rode a big first half to lead the Fighting Scots in scoring with 13 points. The 6'8" sophomore had 11 points at intermission. He made 4-of-9 shots, including 2-of-7 3-pointers, and was 3-of-3 at the line.

Trey Staunch added 11 points, but a harassing Gannon defense limited him to just six shot attempts. He was 5-of-6 at the line. Coleman had five points in his return from the injured list. Alex Jay and Jaryn Simpson led Edinboro with five rebounds.

A balanced Gannon team had four players in double figures, with three leading the way with 14 points. Chris Clancy, Frank Webb Jr., and DeAnte Cisero all had 14 points. Michael Tertsea added 13 markers. Point guard Matt Johnson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Fighting Scots will look to snap their losing streak on Saturday, February 8, playing at Pitt-Johnstown. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
