Nulph announces 2020 Football Schedule

EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro head football coach Jake Nulph announced today the schedule for the upcoming 2020 football campaign. Nulph took over earlier in the year after serving as an assistant coach at Indiana(Pa.) a year ago.

The 2020 slate features six of 11 games at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Fighting Scots will face three teams that played in the NCAA Division II Playoffs last year – West Chester, Slippery Rock, and Indiana(Pa.).

The first-year head coach will face a demanding four-game stretch to begin his initial season. The 2020 season gets underway with a Thursday game under the lights of Sox Harrison Stadium on September 3 at 6:30 p.m.  The Fighting Scots will host perennial Division II power Grand Valley State. The Lakers, members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, were 8-3 a year ago. That included a 35-10 win over Edinboro in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. This is the second year of a three-year contract with GVSU.

"It is very exciting to kick off the year at home, on a Thursday night, against a quality opponent like Grand Valley State," related Nulph. "The PSAC is one of the most competitive conferences in all of Division II. We are going to have to be ready to play every single week."

Weeks two and three find the Fighting Scots playing back-to-back games against PSAC East teams, playing at Shippensburg on Saturday, September 12, followed by a home game against West Chester on Saturday, September 19.

Shippensburg posted a 4-7 record a year ago. The Fighting Scots last played the Raiders in 2015. West Chester was 9-3 a year ago and is one of three teams on Edinboro's schedule to make the NCAA Division II Playoffs a year ago. The Rams make their first appearance at Sox Harrison Stadium since 2016, when the Fighting Scots claimed a thrilling 54-51 victory in two overtimes.

The PSAC West campaign opens on Saturday, September 26, with Edinboro traveling to Cal U to face a Vulcans team that has been their nemesis of late. The Fighting Scots have not beaten Cal since 2004, losing 15 straight to the Vulcans. Cal finished at 7-4 in 2019.

The Fighting Scots return home for their annual Homecoming game against Seton Hill (2-8) on Saturday, October 3.  Edinboro has won six of the seven previous meetings with the Griffins. The Homecoming game kicks off at 2:00 p.m.

Edinboro hits the highways the next two weeks before returning for back-to-back home games. On Saturday, October 10, the Fighting Scots face a Slippery Rock team that won the PSAC championship a year ago and reached the NCAA Division II national semifinals, finishing with a 13-1 record. Edinboro follows that with the short trek up I-79 on Saturday, October 17 to play at Mercyhurst (6-5).

The two-game homestand begins with Gannon (2-9) visiting Sox Harrison Stadium on Saturday, October 24 in a matchup of two first-year head coaches. The next week, the Fighting Scots will look to treat themselves with a victory over Indiana(Pa.) on Halloween. The trick will be for Nulph to defeat an IUP team that was 10-2 a year ago, reaching the NCAA playoffs, while he was a member of their coaching staff.

The 2020 regular season wraps up with a Saturday, November 7 game at Clarion (3-8), before returning home to play Millerville (2-9) from the PSAC East on Saturday, November 14.
