EDINBORO, PA - The Fighting Scots (7-4) were unable to take advantage of a two goal lead as The Crimson Hawks (7-3-1) fought back to eventually win in overtime. The game saw 7 goals in a 4-3 result for the visiting IUP. Edinboro outshot the opponent 23:8 with 14 finding the target.
Edinboro started the game strong with Brittnie Spithaler having a collection of shots early forcing the IUP goalkeeper to be alert. Reece Enochs was able to ensure the early pressure counted in the 20th minute, the freshman forward was alive to a poked through ball and finished well with her left foot for her second of the season.
The Fighting Scots doubled their lead in the 41st minute, a well worked freekick was finished by Megan Malits, assisted by Leah Czechowski.
The first half was far from over as just a minute later a contentious penalty kick was awarded to IUP for a handball in the area. Hannah Scardina slotted the ball home to make it 2-1. IUP kept the pressure on from the restart of the goal and in the 43rd minute were level, Mahogany Willis firing from range to find the bottom right corner.
The second half began in much the same manner as the first with Brittnie Spithaler seeing a shot well saved round the post in the 53rd minute.
The Crimson Hawks found themselves ahead in the 64th minute when Mahogany Willis scored her second of the game, firing a right footed shot across the goal into the bottom right corner.
The Fighting Scots had to wait until the 75th minute when they were awarded a penalty of their own for another handball. Mary Sinan made sure of the penalty, lacing the ball into the back of the net. Anna Voelker ensured the game went to overtime with a huge save down to her left in the last minute.
Edinboro entered overtime for the fourth time this season. The game saw it's seventh goal of the game in the 97th minute when Mahogany Willis scored her hat-tick and game winning goal, breaking the offside trap and finishing well in a one on one situation.
The Fighting Scots return to action on Saturday Oct. 16 Kickoff 1 p.m. at California (Pa.)
