EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro (7-5) fell victim to overtime in a tightly contested match with Cal U (3-9-0). The Vulcans edged the game in the 91st minute of play to win the game 1-0.
The game saw both teams attempting a succession of shots in the first 20 minutes of play. Neither team were able to break the deadlock in the first half, a total of nine shots bringing the first period to a close.
The second half followed a similar pattern, the Vulcans best opportunities coming early in the half as they struck the crossbar. The Fighting Scots rallied later in the half having two shots that were well saved to ensure overtime.
This saw Edinboro enter overtime for the third straight game, fifth in total this season. The Vulcans took the victory in the 91st minute of play when Juliana Cruz netted her fourth of the season.
Edinboro recorded nine shots in the game, six on target. Jenna Derbis, Brittnie Spithaler, Layne Kimple and Lexi Boyk all had shots on target.
Kaylee Lauriel started her first game in goal for The Fighting Scots. The Vulcans had 11 attempts with five on target. Kaylee had four saves in her first collegiate outing.
The Fighting Scots are back on the road as they travel to Clarion on Wednesday, Oct. 20, Kickoff 7 p.m.
