Edinboro, Pa. – Haley Sims scored 24 points and
Gillian Fisher recorded a double-double as the Edinboro women's basketball team topped visiting Bluefield State College 72-60 Friday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
The Big Blue held a 37-36 advantage early in the third quarter. Ashton Boggs scored at the 8:41 to put the Fighting Scots up and spark an 20-7 run that pushed Edinboro to a 56-44 lead with 1:44 left in the third quarter.
The Scots lead slipped to 64-58 with 1:37 remaining, but six straight Edinboro points extended the advantage to 70-58 with 42 seconds to play.
Bluefield State jumped out to a 5-0 lead out of the gate, but an 11-5 spurt from the Fighting Scots gave Edinboro an 11-10 lead. The teams played back and forth to a 16-16 tie after the first.
Edinboro pushed their lead to as many as six, three different times in the second quarter, but the Big Blue were able to trim the lead to 36-33 at the break.
Sims was 9-of-18 from the floor and added five assists and four rebounds to her game-high 24 points. Fisher added 12 points and 11 rebounds as well as four blocks and four steals. Boggs also posted 12 points as well as six rebounds.
Azariah Binford paced the Big Blue with 15 points and four assists. Katrina Davis added 11 points while Londen Coleman pulled down a game-high 14 boards.
The Fighting Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they host Davis & Elkins in a 5:30 p.m. tip at McComb Fieldhouse.
