Fairmont, W.Va. – The Edinboro men's basketball team fell 89-55 to host Fairmont State Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
The Fighting Scots went into the halftime break down 45-35, but the Falcons opened the second half on an 11-0 run to push the lead to 56-35.
Edinboro fought back with a 11-0 run of their own keyed by nine points from
Cyrie Coates to trim the lead to 56-46. Fairmont closed the game on a 33-9 run to set the final.
The Scots got off to a fast start scoring the first eight points of the game. The Falcons answered with 16-3 spurt to take a five-point lead.
Buckets from
Jaryn Simpson and
Kierell Green pulled the Fighting Scots back to even, 16-16, with 13:08 left in the first half. Fairmont responded with 13 straight points to push the lead back to 29-16 at the 11:20 mark of the first.
Edinboro trimmed the lead once again with
Dominique Keyes and Deonte Robertson each scored four points in the 13-3 run to make the score 32-29 Falcons with 7:07 left in the first half.
Alex Jay trimmed the Fairmont lead to one, 34-33, with 3:02 remaining in the half, but an 11-2 run gave Fairmont a 45-35 advantage at the break.
Coates led the Fighting Scots with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Robertson added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Kierell Green pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds to go with seven points and two blocks. Keyes also reached double figures in rebounds with 11.
The Fighting Scots return to action on Sunday when they take on Bluefield State. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Fairmont State's Joe Retton Arena.
