EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro (9-8) fell to an overtime loss to Seton Hill (7-9-1) in the final regular season game of the season. Seton Hill secured the win in the fifth minute of overtime to take the game 3-2. The game saw Edinboro outshot in the game 12-8. Anna Voelker secured four saves in the game.
Edinboro were ahead early in the game through Brittnie Spithaler. The Senior forward scored her fifth goal of the season in the third minute of the game, assisted by Maggie Hays. Brittnie is now the outright scoring leader going into the postseason.
The Griffins were revitalized after halftime, two quick fire goals coming just 10 minutes after the start of the second period. First the equalizer which was scored by Corynna Rotoli, assisted by Leah Policarpio. Julia Scarmadi put Seton Hill ahead just two minutes later on the 57th-minute mark.
Edinboro kept pushing for the equalizer and got their reward in the 82nd minute. An own goal was enough to take the game into overtime, the fifth time of the season that Edinboro have entered overtime.
The deadlock and eventual game winner was scored by Alyssa Neast just five minutes into the extra period, assisted by Leah Policarpio.
Edinboro will now turn their attention to the postseason as they prepare to face Mercyhurst University. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 9, kickoff 1 p.m. at Mercyhurst University.
