Edinboro, Pa – The Edinboro men's basketball team picked up another win on Sunday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse, this time defeating Kutztown 83-78 behind 37 points from Deontae Robertson.
With two seconds remaining in another tight game, Jaryn Simpson was able to knock down two clutch free throws to give Edinboro a five-point advantage and secure the win. This was another quality win as Edinboro was able to slam the door yet again on another PSAC East opponent.
The first half was a battle between the two PSAC opponents as six lead changes occurred throughout the first 20 minutes of play. Edinboro found success through the play of Robertson who had it going early and would carry it into the second half. Robertson scored 24 points in the first half including all four of Edinboro's three pointers.
The Edinboro guard caught fire after he scored 10 points in under two minutes. Robertson's fourth three-pointer of the half cut the lead to 36-34 in favor of the Golden Bears at the break.
Early in the second half Edinboro continued to build momentum and immediately stole the lead after back-to-back buckets from Jaryn Simpson and Dominique Keyes. Kutztown's only lead of the second half came at the 11:56 mark after a made jumper.
The Fighting Scots regained the lead and never looked back after that point. A triple from Simpson at the 4:27 mark would extend the lead to ten points. Free throws were the difference maker for the Fighting Scots in the second half as they collected 21 points from the line.
Robertson's career high 37 points came along with 12 rebounds and four steals, as it was his third double-double of the season.
Simpson added 16 points along with five rebounds and nine points from the free throw line.
Edinboro will remain Idle until the new year on Jan. 5th when they begin PSAC West play by traveling to Clarion University for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
