Lock Haven, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped an 83-80 decision in overtime to host Lock Haven Friday night in the PSAC opener for both teams.
Jaryn Simpson gave the Scots the lead 80-78 with 52 seconds left in overtime, but Lock Haven got five straight points from Eli Washington gave the Bald Eagles the victory.
With 36 seconds left in the second half, Lock Haven went up 69-65 on a pair of free throws by Jesse McPherson.
Kierell Green scored with 26 seconds left to trim the lead to 69-67. The Bald Eagles missed a shot with 17 seconds left and Green pulled down the rebound and then scored with five seconds left to send the game to the extra frame.
The Scots held a 58-48 lead with 7:45 to play, but Lock Haven responded with a 12-2 run to tie the score at 60.
With the scored tied 17-17 in the first half, Edinboro went on a 13-4 spurt to build the lead to 30-21 on a pair of free throws from
Will Taylor. Lock Haven closed the gap to 38-34 with a 13-8 run to end the half.
Simpson notched a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists. He also recorded four steals and four rebounds. Green also tallied a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Deontae Robertson was the only other Scot to reach double figures with 14 points.
Dymir Montague paced the Bald Eagles with 22 points. Washington and McPherson each added 15 points.
The Scots slip to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC. They return to action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. tip at Mansfield.
