VB | PREVIEW | Fighting Scots Volleyball continue home stretch with Notre Dame College matchup

EDINBORO, PA- Edinboro University women's volleyball will look to win a third consecutive game at home this week. The Fighting Scots (6-1) will host Notre Dame College (9-5), in a non-conference matchup at McComb Fieldhouse. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Our Fighting Scots

        ·        The women's volleyball team has gotten off to a hot start this season, holding a record of (6-1) overall record but have yet to begin PSAC action

        ·        This past weekend, the Fighting Scots hosted three different schools all at McComb Fieldhouse, which made for a busy weekend for Edinboro volleyball

        ·        Edinboro emerged from the weekend with a (2-1) record, with wins against Davis & Elkins College and West Virginia Wesleyan College. The squad's only loss came to Shepherd University, which was a game that was decided by two points in the fifth and final set, 18-16.

        ·        In Edinboro's first seven games so far this season, the team has shown how dominant they can be collectively. The squad averages nearly four more kills per set than their opponent and holds a kill percentage of .226.

        ·        Bella Burrelli was a big part of Edinboro's success on the attack, coming away with 40 kills this weekend. Abby Monn contributed 30 kills as well in three games.

        ·        Edinboro's veteran leader, Alicia Eldredge, continued to set up her team and help neutralize her squad's system. Eldredge came away with 99 assists in just three games.

        ·        Burrelli and Monn were also consistent on the defensive end this weekend. Burrelli posted 40 digs and Monn added 35.

        ·        Syndee Jones continued her dominance in shutting down the opposition up front, producing five blocks for her team this weekend.

Up Next Notre Dame College

        ·        Notre Dame College is currently (9-5) overall and have already captured wins against PSAC schools Slippery Rock, Mercyhurst, Bloomsburg and Lock Haven

        ·        Recently, Notre Dame College fell to Clarion 3-0. Later that day, the Falcons were able to avenge their previous match by defeating Bloomsburg 3-2.

        ·        Notre Dame College has solid offensive attack in their victory over Bloomsburg, recording 61 kills and a .208 hit percentage

        ·        The Falcons defense also generated 82 digs and 10 blocks in their previous match up

        ·        Looking back at previous seasons, Edinboro is (7-0) all time against Notre Dame College

"Getting more comfortable with our systems and playing together – since we have so many new players – was one of the valuable takeaways from this weekend.

Notre Dame is a big, physical team. We will be tested on defense, and it will start with blocking.

Playing at home always helps, and we've had some vocal crowds that have been a tremendous help."
