Men’s Basketball Falls to UPJ on the Road

Edinboro, Pa – The Edinboro men's basketball team was defeated by host Pitt-Johnstown with a final of 86-64, on Monday afternoon. Deontae Robertson paced the Fighting Scots with 18 points, as Cyrie Coates and Terrence Moore also finished in double figures.  

With 3:40 to play in the first half, a layup from Roberston and jumper from Moore would cut the Mountain Cat lead to just six points. Pitt-Johnstown would finish the half with a productive 10-2 run, as they lead 44-30 at the break. Edinboro connected on 13 shots from the field, equating to a 43% rate in the first 20 minutes. 

Entering the second half Edinboro remained determined to chip away at the UPJ lead. Midway through the period, the Scots began to gain momentum quickly as they constructed a 10-0 run. At 13:04 mark, a three-pointer from Bryce Spriggs would jump start the Fighting Scot offense. Immediately after, Coates would produce an offensive spark by scoring seven straight points which were set up by a steal from Roberston and a block from Jaryn Simpson.  

Edinboro continued to create chaos on the defensive end, as they proceeded to snag four more steals along with a block from Coates and even a dunk from Dominique Keyes

In the end UPJ continued to pull away as they gained their biggest lead of the game of 24 points at the 1:14 mark in the second half. The Mountain Cat's 51.72% field goal percentage in the second half enabled them to earn the victory. 

Robertson finished with a team-high 18 points, along with five rebounds and three assists. 

Coates followed him with 16 points and five rebounds.  

Moore contributed 11 points, six rebounds and shot 72% from the field.  

The Fighting Scots will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Mercyhurst University at 7:30 p.m.
