Edinboro, Pa – The Edinboro men's basketball team were defeated by Mercyhurst 95-60, at McComb Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. The Fighting Scots fall to (5-8) overall and (3-5) in PSAC play.
Edinboro would begin the game with early production from Deontae Robertson. Robertson's two jumpers put the Scots up 4-2 early. Shortly after, Edinboro and Mercyhurst would begin to trade baskets.
About midway through the half at the 12:28 mark, the Lakers strung together a 7-0 run that would extend their lead to 21-9. Mercyhurst built a lead in the first half by hitting shots.
The Lakers shot 14-31 from the field and connected on three triples. Edinboro shot a streaky 28.6 percent from the field and were 0-6 from three-point range. At the half Mercyhurst was up 43-24.
At the start of the second half Mercyhurst quickly added to their lead as it surpassed 20 points. Edinboro continued to fight as they turned defense into offense after a block by Bryce Spriggs led to a layup by Dominique Keyes on the other end.
Late in the final half of play, the Lakers went on another 7-0 run to seal the victory. Mercyhurst had four players who finished in double figures, including Steve Cannady with 19 points, seven rebounds and five three-pointers.
For Edinboro, Keyes and Will Taylor each finished with a team-high nine points. Cyrie Coates scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.
Edinboro will be back in action on Saturday when they host Slippery Rock University at 3 p.m.
