Edinboro, Pa. –
Bella Burrelli finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds as the Edinboro women's basketball team never trailed in a 71-55 victory over Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
The game opened with a 9-7 in favor of the Scots. Edinboro closed out the first quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 23-7 advantage to the second quarter.
The Edinboro lead grew to 17, 25-8, after a
Rana Elhusseini jumper at the 7:57 mark of the second quarter. Slippery Rock trimmed the lead to 30-26 with a 14-5 spurt capped by a Bella Long triple with 2:26 left in the second.
Ashten Boggs and Burrelli each scored layups to close out the half and give the Scots a 34-26 edge at the half.
In the second half, the Rock trimmed the lead to 44-37 with 2:26 left in the third, but that was as close as it would get as Edinboro finished the quarter on an 8-2 run.
The Scots extended their lead to 21, 66-45, and was never closer than 15 in the final four minutes.
In addition to Burrelli, three Scots reached double figure scoring. Boggs tallied 14 points and five rebounds. Elhusseini added 13 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Lauren Mullen chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and four helpers.
Long was the only Rock player to reach double figures with 11 points. Anyah Curd pulled down a team-high eight points.
The Scots ran their record to 8-4 overall and 6-3 in PSAC play. They are back in action on Monday when they travel to Seton Hill for a 5:30 p.m. matchup with the Griffins.
