Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Soccer earns tie away at UPJ

Johnstown, Pa. – Edinboro women saw an early goal by Megan Malits cancelled out by UPJ's Morgan Kost which saw the game end 1-1 with both teams earning points.

Edinboro got off to a flying start when Megan Malits scored her second goal of the season in the 6th minute. Malits saw an attempt a few minutes earlier missing just right of the goal, her second shot of the game found the back of the net to give Edinboro an early lead.

The sides were level in the 23rd minute through Morgan Kost who was able to finish after the assist from Sophia Lamesta.

Edinboro had 11 shots in the first half but were unable to convert their chances to regain the lead. Emily Vogel and Avery Grischow forced UPJ's Sachi Negri into two saves each during the first half. Negri had five saves in the first half with Edinboro's Kaylee Lauriel equal to two strikes at goal from UPJ.

The second half of play saw UPJ increase their attacking output with five attempts to Edinboro's three. Kaylee Lauriel ended the game with five saves helping the team to a well earned point at a difficult place to play.

The Fighting Scots had much more of the attacking opportunities overall, having 14 attempts at goal as well as 11 corners. Edinboro will be pleased with the point to begin the second half of the season as they look to climb the PSAC West standings.

Up next for Edinboro is a visit from Mercyhurst University. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 5 with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
