Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fighting Scots battle to hard earned point with Mercyhurst

Edinboro, Pa. – Women's soccer secured a third shutout of the season to earn a 0-0 draw with Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening. Nine saves from Kaylee Lauriel went a long way to securing the tie with Mercyhurst frustrated throughout by an Edinboro team that refused to be beaten.

Mercyhurst registered 21 attempts in the game with nine of them on target. Lauriel was equal to all nine shots on target with some excellent saves to keep the scores level.

Edinboro had seven attempts of their own with four shots on target. Lexi Boyk came closest for Edinboro with an attempt cleared by the Lakers defenders after Boyk's initial effort had beat the Mercyhurst goalkeeper.

The woodwork came to Edinboro's aid on three occasions with luck seeming to be with the home side for this particular game. Kaylee Lauriel had two highlight saves in the first half, first coming from a high shot which Lauriel clawed away from the upper corner of the goal. The second came from a low driven shot which Lauriel did well to tip onto the post and away for a corner.

The second half saw much more success for Edinboro who were able to mount pressure towards the Mercyhurst goal. With the scores level late on, Devin Keidel may have snatched a win with two minutes remaining when a through ball saw Keidel through on goal but her effort went just wide of the post.

Haydn Paxton was a rock at the back for Edinboro playing the whole 90-minutes. Clare Crossley and Madison Felton played the majority of the game in what was a hard fought physical game. Every Boro player contributed to the result with each player playing for one another.

A welcome third shutout of the season sees Edinboro begin the second half of the season with two ties as they look to climb the PSAC West standings. Up next for Edinboro is a matchup with Seton Hill who they previously tied with away from home. They welcome the Griffins to Sox Harrison Stadium on Saturday evening with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on Homecoming weekend.
