Soccer shares points with IUP in tricky conditions

Edinboro, Pa. - The Fighting Scots battled it out with IUP on a wet and windy evening at Sox Harrison Stadium. Lexi Boyk put Boro ahead in the first half, but IUP replied with a goal of their own in the second half to share the points.

Edinboro continued where they left off against D'Youville with a lot of control in the early stages. Lexi Boyk opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Clare Crossley did well to latch on to a loose ball and found Boyk alone in the penalty area who finished well past the outcoming IUP goalkeeper. This was Boyk's second goal of the year, coming from Crossley's first assist on the season.

Edinboro looked more likely to score the next goal of the game, with chances falling to Megan Malits and Clare Crossley shortly after the opening goal. Haydn Paxton also had a free-kick that was saved well from long range in the 30th minute.

Edinboro out-shot IUP with five shots to the visitor's four. Kaylee Lauriel had two saves in the first half with IUP's Samantha Gildner having three.

The Crimson Hawks found themselves level in the 50th minute. A cross into the box from Aislinn Meaney was redirected back across the goal by Hannah Scardina for Rachel Onderko to tap in from close range.

IUP were much improved in the second half making it difficult for Edinboro to create clear-cut chances. The game saw both teams cancel each other out in the final stages and honors were even after 90 minutes.

This was Edinboro's fifth tie of the season to take their record to 2-7-6 overall. Edinboro travels to Slippery Rock on Saturday, Oct. 22 with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
