Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Two set pieces separate Edinboro and Slippery Rock as the hosts take the win

Slippery Rock, Pa. – Two corners sealed Edinboro's defeat on Saturday afternoon with Slippery Rock scoring from one in each half. Edinboro had some good opportunities of their own but were unable to convert.

The Fighting Scots were behind in the 16th minute when Maddie DeLucio scored a header of a redirected corner. The goal was close to being cleared away by Layne Kimple but the linesmen ruled it to be over the line.

Many of the chances the Rock had in the game were a result of set pieces, with them looking most dangerous on corners. The first half saw 11 attempts by Slippery Rock to Edinboro's three. This did not paint the picture of the first half with Edinboro having good spells in open play but lacked the final cutting edge pass to break the Slippery Rock high line.

The second and game sealing goal came in the 62nd minute through another corner kick, this time after a deep corner the ball fell to the feet of Faith Diffenbacher who placed it into the back of the Edinboro goal.

Reece Enochs came closest on two occasions to finding a reply for Edinboro. The first saw some sharp play end with a volleyed effort that was just too high of the crossbar. The second came in the closing five minutes of the game after a long throw in from Lexi Boyk found Enochs at the back post who redirected the ball towards goal but Emma Yoder was equal to the effort.

Kaylee Lauriel had eight saves in the game taking her total to 81 saves this season.

The Fighting Scots remain on the road for their final away game of the season when they travel to Clarion on Wednesday evening for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
