Indiana, Pa. – The Fighting Scots opened the 2022-23 season with IUP on Friday evening. The hosts took overall victory in the dual meet with the men's side seeing IUP 164-60 winners, whilst the women's saw IUP take a 143-87 victory.
The evening of races saw multiple PSAC qualifying times for Edinboro with 17 times in total clinching PSAC qualification.
Stephanie Sipple won out in the 1000 yard freestyle touching the wall at 10:52:84 which saw the first PSAC qualifying time of the night for Edinboro. Baila Burgara made it a one two in the event with a second place finish at 11:18.47.
Armando Apigna took second place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:48.29) which saw a PSAC spot clinched, just missing out on first place by .45 seconds.
Makayla Scheu picked up the second Boro victory of the night in the 50 yard freestyle. Scheu logged a time of 24.78 comfortably under the PSAC qualifying time.
Kristen Sipple just missing out in fourth place with a time of 26.30.
The men's 50 yard freestyle saw
Ted Kinney earn second place (21.98 PSAC) and
Frank Barger in fourth (22.62 PSAC).
Lara De Carne placed third in the 200 yard IM (2:16.33) with
Paige Smith following in fourth with a time of (2:17.15).
Stephanie Sipple added another impressive performance in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing at 58.61 (PSAC).
Elijah Innis placed first on the men's side in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 52.75 clinching a PSAC berth.
Makayla Scheu added her second victory of the night in the 100 yard freestyle (54.43 PSAC) with
Avery Zuk placing third (56.08).
Luke Edmonds placed second in the men's event with a time of 48.61 beating the PSAC standard.
Leia Ross joined the action in the 100 yard backstroke clinching a PSAC spot in a time of 1:00.35.
Gerardo Gonzalez Ruiz placed second on the men's side (54.83 PSAC) with Armando Apigna clinching his second PSAC time of the night at 56.35.
Lara De Carne and
Paige Smith both clinched PSAC places in their 100 yard backstroke race with De Carne touching the wall in second at 1:09.86 and Smith following in third at 1:11.03.
The evening saw a great opening to the season for Edinboro with many positive performances throughout.
