Erie, Pa. -- The Edinboro volleyball team will travel to PSAC West opponent Gannon on Saturday (Oct. 22) for a 2 pm start. The Scots will look to avenge their early season loss back on Sept. 24 when the Golden Knights won in four sets.
Five-To-Go
The Scots enter the weekend with a (7-4) conference record and (17-6) overall. The Scots currently sit in third place in a tight PSAC West race, as only Gannon and top seed Clarion have obtained better conference records. Edinboro has five matches remaining in regular season play, with two of those matches going against the top teams in the west.
Offense
Edinboro's efficient attack has only improved as the season has gone on. The Scots have averaged a (.240) hitting percentage in their last seven matches in conference play. In their first four conference matches Edinboro was only hitting at a (.149) clip. The Scots also rank fourth in the PSAC with 1,004 kills on the year with over 12 kills per set. Bella Burrelli leads the team with 240 kills averaging 2.96 kills per set on a (.151) clip. Natalie Pallone is second with 207 kills on the year averaging 2.56 kills per set on a (.202) clip.
Setter Alicia Eldredge has been Edinboro's go-to facilitator this season with a team-high 688 assists. Eldredge has now moved into fourth place in the PSAC for assists as she averages 8.94 assists per set.
In their last match the setting duo Grace Vaeth and Abigale Soboleski combined for 47 assists along with zero errors in their four-set win over Mercyhurst Tuesday night.
Defense
Edinboro is second in the PSAC with 2.02 blocks per set, with only Shepherd averaging more. Sally Sterkel leads the team with 77 blocks on the season while averaging (0.95) per set. In their last match against Mercyhurst, Sterkel posted a season-high eight blocks.
The Scots are third in digs among the best in the conference with only Gannon and Slippery Rock averaging more. On the season the Scots have went for 1,386 digs and average 17.11 per set. Carly Pry leads the team with 370 on the year while averaging 4.74 per set.
Gannon
The Golden Knights come into the match with a (9-1) conference record and (16-5) overall. Gannon is ranked second in the PSAC and is directly ahead of Edinboro. The Golden Knights have won their last four matches and have only lost to Clarion in conference play.
Edinboro and Gannon competed against each other earlier this season back on Sept. 24. The Golden Knights bested Edinboro on their home court in four sets. Gannon finished with more kills, assists and a better hitting percentage. Gannon's Madde Blake finished with a match-high 19 kills. For Edinboro, Burrelli posted a team-high 15 kills.
Gannon leads the PSAC with 18.44 digs per set, with 1,291 on the season. Sam Deinek leads the Golden Knights with 232 kills while averaging 3.41 per set. Emma Hall is Gannon's digs leader with 397 on the year and 5.67 per set as she is the overall conference leader.
