Edinboro, Pa.-- The Edinboro volleyball team earned a strong win on Senior night against Seton Hill in four sets as they swept the season series (25-14, 24-26, 25-21, 25-17). With the win, the Scots improved to (19-7) overall and (9-5) in conference play.
In four sets played, Edinboro recorded 13 more kills than Seton Hill. The Scots finished with a (.320) hitting percentage compared to the Griffin's (.242) clip.
In the opening set it was all Edinboro as they produced 18 kills on a (.325) clip. Four kills from Bella Burrelli and one from senior Sally Sterkel put Edinboro up 5-0 quickly. Later, the Scots strung together another four points with kills coming from Kasey Smith and Burrelli as well as an ace from senior Alicia Eldredge. Shortly after, another run was fueled by more kills from Smith and Sterkel. The run also included a Burrelli ace and a Natalie Pallone kill to conclude the run at 21-9. Seton Hill found a way to create five more points including a block from Elizabeth Kolkowski. Eventually, another Burrelli kill would retire the set at 25-14.
In the second set Seton Hill gave Edinboro a run for their money but fell short. Even though the Griffins produced more kills in the set, it was the Scot's efficient clip that put them over the top. Edinboro's (.263) clip turned into 14 kills and only four errors in the set. Seton Hill grabbed the first lead as three straight kills and a block put them ahead 14-8. Edinboro would counter with two kills from Pallone and a solo block from Eldredge, which cut the Griffin's lead to 19-16. Down the stretch, two kills from Burrelli and one from Eldredge helped tie the set at 24-24. Finally, a kill from senior Erica Sharp was enough to retire the set at 26-24.
In the third set it was all Seton Hill as they fought off the potential sweep, as they hit at a (.536) clip and produced 17 kills. Early on two-straight points from the Griffins put them ahead 14-8. Seton Hill would continue to pour on the points as a kill extended their lead to 19-12. Edinboro then countered with four-straight points of their own which included an ace from Carly Pry and another kill from Smith. A late kill from Eldredge cut Seton Hill's lead to 24-21, but it wasn't enough. Seton Hill retired the set off a Edinboro service error as they won the set 25-21.
In the fourth set Edinboro would overpower Seton Hill and wouldn't allow the match to go to a fifth set. The Scots had their most efficient clip all evening at (.417) along with 18 huge kills. Early on, Edinboro got things going with three-straight kills coming from Pallone, Eldredge and Burrelli. Another run was created off Pry's service when she came away with two aces. On the same run kills would come from Emelia Rowell and Sharp as the Scots led 10-5. Later, senior Grace Vaeth created a nice play to set up Rowell with another kill, as Edinboro led 22-12. Then on a potential match point, senior Jessie Michel came in to serve. The play resulted in a kill for the Griffins as they stayed alive. Eventually, Burrelli put a cap on senior night when she earned her seventeenth kill of the evening to retire the match at 25-17.
