Edinboro, Pa.-- The Edinboro women's basketball team opened the season with a commanding 92-72 victory over Notre Dame College on Friday night inside the McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots were led by their starting backcourt in Hayley Sims and Rana Elhusseini who combined for 51 points.
Edinboro jumped out to a strong lead in the first quarter with efficiency as they shot 63% from behind the arc and connected on five three-pointers. Sims got the Scots going by scoring the team's first eight points, gaining a 8-2 lead.
Later in the first, another three-pointer went down this time it came from Elhusseini as Edinboro led 18-9. The next play Elhusseini picked the pocket of Karli Anker, which turned into a jumper by Sims.
At the beginning of the second quarter Edinboro would continue to pour on the points. Back-to-back three-pointers from Sims and Morgan Gentile would extend the Scot's lead to 18 points at the 7:09 marker. Notre Dame countered with their own 6-0 run to cut the Edinboro lead to just 12 points with 5:33 remaining in the second quarter. With seconds left in the first half, Lauren Mullen hit a huge three-pointer as Edinboro went into halftime leading 48-38.
In the third quarter Edinboro would outscore the Falcons by ten points as they continued to build upon their lead. In the quarter, the Fighting Scots would once again connect on five three-pointers.
After a pair of free throws from Sophia Ojhammar, a steal from Gentile would turn into a fastbreak three-pointer from Sims on the other end. With 2:35 left in the quarter, Edinboro was ahead 65-43. Within the final minute of the third quarter, Zoe Murphy joined in on the three-point party as Edinboro went up 71-48.
With 2:29 remaining in the fourth quarter, Sims would connect on her seventh three-pointer of the night as Edinboro led 84-69.

The Fighting Scots will be back in action on Saturday when they host Salem University at 4 pm.
