Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team jumped out to a fast start and never looked back as they topped visiting Salem 80-58 Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
In the first quarter, the Scots came out firing shooting 9-of-18 from the field and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Rana Elhusseini and
Hayley Sims hit a pair of threes each and had eight and six in the opening quarter respectively. The Scots held a 27-15 advantage at the end of one.
The Scots extended the lead in the second holding the Tigers to just eight points. Edinboro again used the 3-point shot going 5-of-12 from beyond the arc taking a 46-23 lead into the locker room.
After the break, the Scots cooled from long range going 0-of-4 from distance. Salem trimmed the Edinboro lead to 55-43 at the end of the third. The teams played an even fourth setting the final.
Elhusseini finished with 15 points to go with five helpers, four steals and two rebounds.
Macie Jarrett also scored 15 points and dished out five assists. Sims tallied nine points and a team-high six rebounds.
Liliani Krause was the leading scorer for Salem with nine points. Anete Bluma also notched nine points.
The Scots forced 25 Salem turnovers and converted that into 30 points. Edinboro had only 13 turnovers that led to 13 Tiger points.
Edinboro is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Davis & Elkins College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
