Fairmont, W. Va.-- The Edinboro men's basketball team fell to Glenville State College 73-72 in a game that went down to the wire. After a 7-0 run by the Pioneers in the final 11 seconds, a final shot from Edinboro fell short at the buzzer. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fell to (0-2) on the season.
Early in the first half Edinboro grabbed a 25-17 lead after a layup by from Kierell Green, which was followed by a three-pointer from Naim Miller. With 4:09 left in the first half, back-to-back layups by Will Taylor and Green allowed the Scots to regain the lead.
In the final two minutes Taylor converted on another layup at the rim. The Pioneers countered with a floater to cut the lead to 37-35 at the half. In the first half the Scots held a two-point lead while shooting 68% from the field.
In the second half Edinboro dealt with shooting slump as their efficiency from the field dropped to 33%. Regardless of their shooting woes, the Scots came out in the second half with a strong 11-2 run. The run was fueled by shots at the rim from Dominique Keyes and Harlyn Owens as Edinboro led 48-39 with 12:19 to play in the game.
With 3:37 to play the Scots went on 7-0 run to regain a 67-62 lead. The run was jump started by a steal from Taylor and led to shots at the rim for Jack Gallagher. With 19 seconds remaining, the Scots held a six-point lead after two free throws from Miller.
The final 19 seconds of the game consisted of three Edinboro turnovers which turned into seven point for Glenville State. The Pioneers pulled away in a nail biter, as Edinboro fell 73-72.
-Will Taylor led Edinboro with 18 points and added in eight rebounds
-Naim Miller added in 17 points and was a perfect six-for-six from the line
-Kierell Green contributed a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds
Edinboro will be back in action on Friday (Nov. 18) for their home opener at McComb Fieldhouse. The game begins at 7 pm.
