Edinboro, Pa.-- The Edinboro men's basketball team earned their first win of the season on Friday night inside McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots defeated Tiffin University 86-79 in a game where neither team ever led by double digits.
Dominique Keyes made an immediate impact in the opening minutes with eight of the Scot's 12 points as Edinboro held a one-point lead. With 5:48 in the first half, back-to-back three-pointers from Keyes and Easton Fulmer gave the Scot's their biggest lead of the half at seven.
Keyes finished with 15 points at the half after a slam dunk with less than a minute to play. Edinboro held a 41-40 lead halfway through.
In the second half Edinboro would hold the lead all but for one minute of play. The Scots jumped out with a quick 8-0 to begin the half after back-to-back three-pointers from Kierell Green and a layup by Jack Gallagher. The quick Edinboro run forced an early timeout by Tiffin as the Scots held their biggest lead of the game at 49-40.
With 9:49 to play, Fulmer would connect on another shot from deep as Edinboro went back up by one point. Naim Miller strung together five-straight points for Edinboro after a strong and-one was followed by a jump shot.
As the teams continued trade baskets down the stretch, Harlyn Owens converted on three straight baskets as he kept Edinboro ahead. With less than two minutes remaining Keyes connected on his second three-pointer of the night followed by a layup, as the Scots led by seven.
Edinboro closed out the game at the free-throw line by going three-for-six, which was enough to get passed Tiffin University 86-79.
Keyes finished with a game-high 24 points and 15 rebounds, along with two blocks and two steals.
Green added in a smooth 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Scots will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan College for a 7pm start.
