Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest at Bluefield State

Bluefield, W.Va. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped a 76-67 decision to host Bluefield State Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
 
The Scots tied the game 20-20 on a Sophia Ojhammar layup at the 7:20 mark of the second quarter, but Bluefield State went on a 9-0 run to build a 29-20 lead. Edinboro outscored the Big Blue 5-4 to cut the halftime deficit to 33-25.
 
Edinboro cut into the lead in the third starting the half on a 10-5 spurt capped by a Rana Elhusseini layup making the score 38-35 at the 5:41 mark of the third. Aeriha Afoa hit a three to push the lead 41-35, but four straight points from Gillian Fisher trimmed the lead back down to 41-39. Edinboro would get as close as two again, 49-47, after a Macie Jarret bucket with 48 seconds left in the quarter, but a late Bluefield layup made it 51-47 after three.
 
Bluefield State scored the first five points of the fourth and the Scots couldn't get closer than seven the rest of the way.
 
The game started off slow with the game going scoreless before Ashten Boggs hit a 3-pointer at the 6:15 mark of the first. Edinboro got out to a 12-7 lead with 1:19 left in the first, but the Big Blue closed the quarter with six straight to take a 13-12 lead after one.
 
Edinboro cooled from behind the arc in this contest going just 4-of-21 from long range. The Scots also limited Bluefield to just 6-of-22 from behind the arc.
 
Elhusseini paced the Scots with 18 points to go with four rebounds and two assists. Hayley Sims netted 12 points and tied with Morgan Gentile with a team-high six boards.
 
Afoa paced the Big Blue with 20 points while Rory Cox tallied 17.
 
The Scots are back in action on Tuesday when they host the University of Findlay at 5:30 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
