Edinboro, Pa. – Despite 34 points from
Hayley Sims the Edinboro women's basketball team came out on the wrong end of an 86-84 double overtime contest against the University of Findlay Tuesday evening at McComb Fieldhouse.
With 59 seconds left in the first overtime,
Rana Elhusseini cut the Oiler lead to 67-66.
Lauren Mullen picked up a steal and Haley Sims gave the Scots the lead with a jumper in the paint.
Bailie Brinson stole the ball with 12 seconds left. Elhusseini extended the lead to 70-67 with a pair of free throws with six seconds to play. Elizabeth Flynn hit a triple as time expired to second the game to a second extra period.
Findlay scored the first six points of the second overtime to build a 76-70 lead. The Scots got as close 78-74 on an
Ashten Boggs 3-pointer with 1:10 remaining. Findlay scored four straight to push the advantage back to 82-74. Edinboro went on a 7-2 run to get as close as 84-81, but Serena Sammarone hit a pair of free throws with six seconds left to seal the victory for the Oilers.
The Scots brought a four-point lead, 24-20, out of the half. Boggs opened the scoring as Edinboro outscored the Oilers 25-12 in the quarter to build a 49-32 advantage.
Findlay opened the fourth quarter on an 21-1 run capped by a pair of Katie Ellis free throws to take a 53-50 advantage. The Scots pulled even, 55-55, on a Boggs 3-pointer at the 2:41 mark. Each team scored a layup and split a pair of free throws over the final two minutes sending it to an extra frame.
The Oilers came out of the gate hot building an 11-2 lead at the 5:48 mark of the first. Edinboro scored the next six points led by four points from Boggs trimming the lead to 11-8. Findlay went on a 6-2 spurt to take a 17-10 advantage at the 9:26 point of the second. Edinboro closed the half on a 14-3 run to take a 24-20 lead into the break.
In addition to her 34 points, Sims tallied five rebounds, four steals, two blocks and an assist. Boggs tallied 22 points and six boards. Elhusseini finished with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Flynn led the Oilers with 20 points going 8-of-8 from the field and 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Ellis added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
The Scots return to action on Dec. 2 with a trip to Millersville. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
