Women’s Basketball Falls at Millersville

Millersville, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped their PSAC opener 82-70 to host Millersville Friday night.
 
After an administrative technical foul gave the Scots a free throw before the clock started, Millersville scored the next nine points to build a 9-1 advantage just two minutes into the contest.
 
Rana Elhusseini scored four points in a 7-2 spurt to trim the lead down to 11-8 with 5:32 left in the first quarter. The Marauders scored the next five points to push the lead out to 16-8. Elhusseini hit a triple to get back to 16-11, but Millersville finished the quarter on an 11-6 spurt to take a 27-17 advantage after one.
 
In the second quarter the defenses were on display for both teams as the teams combined for just 27 points with Millersville taking a 37-24 lead into the locker room.
 
The Marauder lead would grow to as many as 19, 54-35, in the third quarter when Marin Miller hit a 3-pointer with 5:25 left in the quarter. Edinboro battled back cutting the lead to 57-43 after an Ashten Boggs layup with 51 seconds to play in the third. Bria Beverly hit a jumper before the end of the quarter to make it 59-43 Millersville heading to the final stanza.
 
In the fourth, the Mauraders opened up a 73-51 lead on a Makiah Shaw basket at the 4:22 mark. The Fighting Scots finished the game on a 19-9 run to set the final at 82-70.
 
Elhusseini paced the Fighting Scots with 23 points to go with six assists, five rebounds and five steals. Boggs added 17 points and four boards.
 
Taylor Langan led the Marauders with 22 points, while Brenna Ortwein chipped in 16.
 
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Shepherd for a 5:30 p.m. showdown with the Rams.
