Shepherdstown, W.Va. – Behind a double-double from
Rana Elhusseini and 13 different Fighting Scot scorers the Edinboro women's basketball team topped host Shepherd 81-42 Saturday night.
Edinboro held a 39-27 advantage at the half, and blew the game open in the third quarter. The Scots held the Rams to just eight points while scoring 28 to extend the lead to 67-35 after three. In the fourth, the Scots outscored Shepherd 14-7 to set the final.
The Scots scored first on a
Gillian Fisher jumper, before Peyton Grant gave Shepherd their only lead of the contest at the 8:36 mark. Edinboro scored seven straight points to go up 9-3. The Rams hit another 3-pointer, but the Scots finished the half with a 10-6 spurt to take a 19-12 edge into the second.
Shepherd would close the gap to as close as seven, 21-14, with 8:21 to play in the second, but Edinboro extended their halftime lead to 39-27.
The Fighting Scot defense that has been so good at causing turnovers continued on Saturday. Edinboro forced 36 Shepherd turnovers while only turning over the ball six times.
Elhusseini tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also picked up seven steals and four helpers.
Ashten Boggs added 12 points.
Macie Jarrett and
Zoe Murphy each scored nine points.
Grant and Sydney Bolles each scored 12 points to lead the Rams.
The Scots are back in action on Dec. 18 when they host Lock Haven at McComb Fieldhouse at 1 p.m.
