Hayley Sims scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the second half as the Edinboro women's basketball team topped visiting Lock Haven 88-66 Sunday afternoon in PSAC play at McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots held a 44-39 lead coming out of the break. The teams traded buckets to start the third as Edinboro pushed the lead to 49-43 at the 7:35 mark.
Rana Elhusseini pushed the lead to 52-43 with a triple at 5:14, but Kylie Metzger answered with a layup at the 4:32 mark.
Macie Jarrett kick started an 11-0 run with a pair of 3-point field goals putting the Scots up 64-45 with 1:23 left in the third. The Bald Eagles would hit a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 64-47 after three.
Lock Haven would get as close as 72-61 with 5:41 to play after a 14-8 spurt to start the fourth, but Edinboro answered with 14-2 run keyed by 12 points from Sims to salt the game away.
The Bald Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Edinboro answered with an 9-3 spurt of their own to take their first lead of the game 9-8 at the 4:22 mark of the first. The teams traded the lead back and forth with the Scots holding a 15-14 edge with 2:27 left in the first. The Scots finished the first on a 9-4 run capped by a buzzer-beating layup by Elhusseini to make it 24-18 after the first.
The Edinboro lead crew to nine, 32-23, on a
Zoe Murphy trey with 7:45 to play in the second. After a Lock Haven timeout, the Bald Eagles went on a 12-3 run to cut the lead to 36-35. The Scots scored the next four points on an Elhusseini free throw and a
Lauren Mullen 3-pointer to push the lead back to 40-35. The teams would trade baskets with Edinboro taking a 44-39 lead into the break.
In addition to her 20 points, Sims added four assists, three steals and three rebounds. Elhusseini tallied 18 points, nine rebounds, five helpers and three steals. Mullen also scored in double figures with 15 points.
Bella Burrelli was the Scots leading rebounder with 12 boards to go with eight points.
Brooke Lawyer led the Bald Eagles with 18 points while Taylor Leidy added 14.
The Scots are back in action on Monday when they host Mansfield at McComb Fieldhouse at 1 p.m.
