Women’s Basketball Tops Mansfield Behind Gentile’s Career-High

Edinboro, Pa. – Behind a career-high 22 points from Morgan Gentile, the Edinboro women's basketball team topped visiting Mansfield 83-63 Monday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
 
Holding a 44-38 advantage at the half, Edinboro came out of the break and scored the first nine points of the second half. The Mounties trimmed the lead to 13, 55-42, with 6:06 remaining in the third, but an 8-2 spurt capped by a Hayley Sims 3-pointer with 4:14 on the clock made it 63-44.
 
The Scots lead would grow to as much as 26, 80-54 on a Maura Suman jumper with 3:47 left in the fourth before Mansfield closed the game with a 9-3 run to set the final.
 
In the first quarter, Edinboro jumped out to a 15-7 lead with behind strong 3-point shooting with Rana Elhusseini connecting once from beyond the arc and Sims hitting a pair.
 
Mansfield scored five straight to trim the lead to 15-12, but the Scots answered with 12 straight of their own with Gentile notching five and Sims scoring four to extend the lead to 27-12 with 1:31 remaining in the first.
 
In the second the Mounties chipped away at the Scot lead opening the quarter on an 11-3 run to make it 30-23. Edinboro pushed the lead back out to 12, 38-26, on a Jenna Babay triple with 4:22 left in the half. The Mounties would get as close as 42-38 on a Danae Ellzy layup at the 1:27 mark, but Gentile answered with a layup to send the Scots into the break leading 44-38.
 
Gentile added eight rebounds and two steals to her 22 points. Sims finished the day with 21 points, three helpers and two steals. Elhusseini notched 11 points, six boards, six assists and a steal.
 
Jasmine Hilton paced the Mounties with 17 points and eight rebounds. Alivia Paeglow added 13 points and six boards.
 
The Scots return to action on Dec. 30 with a trip to Bloomsburg. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
