Swimming dominant in the pool against Allegheny

Edinboro, Pa. - Edinboro took overall victory for both the men and the women on Saturday afternoon in their first home meet of the season. The men won out in a 124-71 result, with the women scoring 99 points to Allegheny's 75.

The 200 medley relay saw Edinboro open the afternoon's competition with two first-place finishes. The team of Leia Ross, Lara De Carne, Stephanie Sipple, and Makayla Scheu finished at 1:50.00. Gerardo Ruiz, Jacob Bettano, Elijah Innis, and Frank Barger won a closely fought race touching the wall at 1:37.90.

Stephanie Sipple put in a dominant performance in the 1650 freestyle, placing first by 35 seconds in a time of 18:25.72. Baila Bugara took second at 19:04.79. Shane Steffey and Daniel Hastings also made it a one-two for the men to kickstart the afternoon for Edinboro.

Cara Della-Toffalo continued the dominant start with a time of 2:05.05 in the 200 freestyle to take first.

The Fighting Scots took the top three spots in both 50 freestyles. Avery Zuk in first (25.58), followed by an improved time by Abigail Greene (25.86), and Lena Mitcho in third (27.60). Ted Kinney won his second 50 freestyle of the year at 21.74, followed by Luke Edmonds (22.00) and Frank Barger (22.81).

The 200 IM saw Lara De Carne win with a time of 2:14.10, improving on her previous PSAC time posted this season.

Makayla Scheu placed first in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.02 which is under the PSAC qualification time. Baila Bugara took second at 1:02.00.

Avery Zuk was victorious in the 100 freestyle at 55.97, supported by Liliana Delgado (56.29) in second and Cara De Toffalo (59.29) in third. Luke Edmonds followed suit for the men taking first at 48.50, with Elijah Innis in second at 49.22.

The men took first and second in the 100 backstroke. Armando Apigna-Castellanos touched first at 54.49, with Brian Bell in second at 1:00.63.

Gerardo Gonzalez Ruiz put in a strong performance in the 500 freestyle beating the PSAC qualification time at 5:00.38 to secure first place.

Jacob Bettano added another victory for Edinboro and the men in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:04.06.

The afternoon of racing was brought to a close with the 200 freestyle relay, which was won by the team of Luke Edmonds, Armando Apigna-Castellanos, Frank Barger, and Ted Kinney at 1:28.15.
