Volleyball Heads to Gannon for PSAC Quarterfinals

Erie, Pa. -- The Edinboro volleyball team will travel to Gannon University for the quarterfinal round of the 2022 PSAC Volleyball Championship on Wednesday at 7 pm. 

#4 Edinboro 
The fourth seed out of the PSAC West enters the postseason with a clean slate after capping off the regular season with a (19-9) overall record and (9-7) in conference play. Edinboro enters the postseason with a team full of postseason experience. The Scots brought back eight players who competed in last year's regional playoff run in 2021. 

Regular Season Run 
The Fighting Scots finished as one of the top five teams statistically in the PSAC conference. Edinboro finished in the top five in five-of-the-seven major statistical categories in the 2022 regular season. 

Blocks 
Edinboro was third in blocks with (1.85 per set) and 187 overall through 28 matches. Sally Sterkel led the Scots with 85 blocks on (0.84 per set), which put her in the top 15 in the conference. Erica Sharp and Natalie Pallone also surpassed 60 blocks in the regular season. Sharp averaged (0.70 per set) while Pallone followed with (0.64 per set). 

Assists 
For assists, Edinboro finished fourth in the conference with (11.38 per set) and 1,149 total in 101 sets played. Edinboro's assist leader was Alicia Eldredge who was fourth in the conference with 850 on the season and (8.76 per set). 

Kills 
On the attack, Edinboro finished fourth in kills with 1,255 in the regular season at a rate of (12.43 kills per set). Bella Burrelli led the Scots with 304 kills in the season as she averaged (3.01 per set). Pallone (260) and Sharp (226) also surpassed 200 kills this season.  

Hitting Percentage 
The Scots have produced kills at a very efficient rate this year. Edinboro was fourth in the conference for hitting percentage at (.213). Sharp had the second-best hitting percentage in the entire PSAC with a (.366) clip. Sterkel also found herself in the top-ten with a (.288) clip.  

Digs 
Edinboro was also fourth in digs this season with 1,720 while averaging (17.03 per set) in 28 matches. Carly Pry was the Scot's dig leader with 446 on the year and was sixth in the conference with (4.55 per set). Eldredge followed her with 305 on the season and (3.14 per set). 


#1 Gannon 
The first seed out of the PSAC West enters the postseason after capturing a (23-6) overall record and (15-1) conference record. The Golden Knights closed out the regular season last Saturday with a win over Clarion to clinch the first seed out west. 

In their two meetings this season, Gannon was able to take both matches over Edinboro. In their seven sets played, Gannon had a better hitting percentage at (.339) compared to Edinboro's (.223) clip. Burrelli and Pallone each averaged 3.57 kills per set in the two matches. For Gannon, Maggie Greenfield averaged 4.43 kills per set. 

Gannon finished the regular season second in kills (12.95 per set) and assists (11.81 per set). Sam Deinek leads the Golden Knights with 309 kills (3.25 per set). Arslan Bengisu leads Gannon with 963 assists (9.93 per set).
