Edinboro, Pa.-- The Edinboro men's basketball team earned their third win of the season after being down 17 points on Monday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots defeated Mansfield University 75-73 behind 21 points from Will Taylor.
Right off the tip it was the visiting Mounties who struck first. Mansfield found themselves up 12-4 early in the first half after a jumper by Manir Waller in the paint.
Edinboro would counter with a 9-0 run to grab a one-point lead. During the Scots run, Naim Miller would connect on a big three-pointer to swing the momentum.
Near the end of the first half Mansfield would regain control and jump ahead by 11 points. As the halftime buzzer sounded, Jack Gallagher found Miller for a deep three-pointer. Edinboro went into the half trailing 34-42.
At the start of the second half, it was Mansfield who kept control of the lead. With 7:55 remaining in the game the Mounties held their biggest lead of the game of 17 points. Mansfield had just gone on a 9-2 run and looked like they were beginning to pull away from the Scots.
With seven minutes remaining Edinboro would switch gears and go on a unprecedented 22-3 run to close out the game.
Edinboro started the run with three straight three-pointers from Jayden Harper, Kierell Green and Taylor. Moments later Miller would find Dominique Keyes for a huge two-handed slam which tied the game at 70-70.
With just a minute to play, a layup from Taylor would give Edinboro their first lead since the first half. A few possessions later Miller would make a free throw to increase the Edinboro lead to 75-73.
On the final play of the game Mansfield fell short on a three-point attempt as time expired, which officially completed Edinboro's comeback win.
Taylor finished with a game-high 21 points, along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Keyes went for his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Miller contributed 14 points and five rebounds.
Edinboro will be back in action on Dec. 30 when they travel to Bloomsburg.
