Edinboro, Pa – 29 points from Cyrie Coates helped boost the Edinboro men's basketball team past rival Gannon University 79-71, at McComb Fieldhouse Monday night. The Fighting Scots improved to (8-14) overall and (6-11) in PSAC play.
Edinboro jumped out to an early lead as a jumper from Kameron King put the Scots ahead 17-3 at the 13:45 mark. Later in the half a three-pointer from Coates extended the Edinboro lead to 20 points.
Coates ended the half with his second dunk of the game as Edinboro held a 41-29 lead at the break. The Scots were on fire in the first half shooting 53% from the field including five three-pointers.
The second half was about Edinboro picking up where they left off. Coates scored the opening basket and was assisted by Deontae Robertson. At the 6:02 mark, Robertson stole the ball and ran the break, finding Terrence Moore for an and-one.
With less than a minute to play, Coates would ice the game with two free-throws. Edinboro finished the game shooting an efficient 48% from the field as they bested PSAC West rival Gannon, 71-61.
Edinboro has now won three of their last four games as they continue to fight for a spot in the PSAC tournament.
Coates finished with a game-high 29 points, along with six rebounds while shooting 79% from the field.
Robertson followed him with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
King contributed 13 points while shooting 5-9 from the field.
Edinboro will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 7:30 p.m.
