Edinboro Drops PSAC West Matchup at Mercyhurst

Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped a 76-66 decision to host Mercyhurst Saturday night in PSAC West action at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
 
Haley Sims hit a 3-pointer with 5:33 to play in the game to put Edinboro up 58-54, but the Lakers closed out the game on a 22-8 run to secure the victory.
 
The Scots jumped out to an early 11-5 advantage capped by an Ashten Boggs layup at the 5:57 mark of the first quarter. Mercyhurst cut the lead to 11-9 with four straight points, but a Rana Elhusseini jumper and Lauren Mullen triple pushed the lead back to 16-9. Edinboro's lead would grow to as many as nine, 21-12, after a Sims trey at the 1:58 mark. The Scots would lead 21-15 after one.
 
Mercyhurst outscored the Scots 17-7 in the second quarter to take a 32-28 advantage into the half.
 
Edinboro pushed back in the third. Trailing 45-38 with 5:54 left in the third, Macie Jarrett kicked off a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to 49-48 with 38 seconds on the clock in the third. Jayde Boyd hit a jumper in the quarter's final seconds to put the Lakers ahead 51-48 at the end of the third. The Scots opened the fourth on a 10-3 spurt to pull ahead 58-54.
 
Elhusseini led Edinboro with 19 points to go with five assists. Sims added 18 points. Bella Burrelli pulled down 11 boards to lead the Scots.
 
Boyd paced the Laker offense with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Grace Centrulla added 12 points and nine boards.
 
Despite the loss, Edinboro clinched a spot in the PSAC postseason field with via a Slippery Rock loss to Gannon Saturday night.
 
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
