Slippery Rock, Pa. – Five different players scored in double figures as the Edinboro women's basketball team earned a 77-66 victory over host Slippery Rock Wednesday night in PSAC West action.
With 8:43 to play in the game, Dejah Quick made a layup to trim the Edinboro lead to 52-50. The Scots went on a 13-5 run capped by a Haley Sims 3-pointer with 4:26 on the clock. The Edinboro lead never fell below eight the rest of the way.
Slippery Rock jumped out to a 5-3 lead, before the Fighting Scots scored 14 straight points capped by a
Gillian Fisher jumper at the 2:48 mark of the first quarter to take a 17-5 advantage. Bella Long connected on a 3-pointer to make the score 17-8 after the first quarter.
In the second, the Rock trimmed the lead down to 22-16 with an 8-5 spurt to open the quarter. Edinboro closed the quarter on a 14-9 run of their own to hold a 36-25 lead at the half.
Ashten Boggs extended the lead to 38-25 with a pair of free throws to open the third. Slippery Rock scored 13 in a row to tie the game, but Fisher broke the run with a layup as the and the Scots never gave up the lead the rest of the way.
Sims paced the Edinboro offense with 18 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Rana Elhusseini netted 16 points and five helpers.
Bella Burrelli tallied 14 points and six boards.
Boggs turned in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Fisher was the fifth Scot to score in double figures with 13.
Kennedy Middleton led the Rock with 24 points. Quick added 19 while Jamiyah Johnson added 16 points and 18 rebounds.
The Fighting Scots close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Seton Hill at 1 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
