Slippery Rock, Pa – A late comeback effort fell short as the Edinboro men's basketball was defeated by Slippery Rock 72-79, at Morrow Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. The Fighting Scots fell to (8-17) overall and (6-14) in PSAC play.
Slippery Rock came out early and gained momentum, after two minutes of play the Rock held a 6-2 lead. Edinboro responded with eight straight points, including six points from Jaryn Simpson. The 8-0 run put Edinboro ahead 10-6 with 16:29 to play in the first half.
In the final minute of the first half, Edinboro drained a three-pointer from Kameron King who was set up by Cyrie Coates. The triple cut the Rock's lead to just one point. The ensuing possession, Slippery Rock would respond with a three-pointer of their own right before the halftime buzzer. The Rock went into the break leading the Scots 39-35.
In the first half Edinboro shot 42% from the field and connected on four three-pointers.
At the start of the second half, Slippery Rock would jump out to another lead and sustained momentum. The Rock initiated a 6-0 run while increasing their lead to ten points with 14:44 left to play. Moments later, Slippery Rock constructed another run this time they scored nine straight points inflating their lead to a game-high 17 points at the 10:31 mark.
Edinboro continued to fight down the stretch and gave themselves a chance to win in the final moments. With less than two minutes to play, Edinboro constructed their own 12-4 run including five points from Alex Jay. With 29 seconds left in the game, the Scots were down 72-76 when Dominique Keyes stole the ball from the Rock. '
Ultimately, Edinboro missed two consecutive shots that would have trimmed the lead to a one possession game. The Rock would seal the game with free throws.
Deontae Robertson finished with a team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Jay recorded a season-high 13 points, including three three-pointers.
Keyes followed with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Edinboro will play their final game of the season on Saturday when they host Seton Hill University at 3 p.m.
