Clarion, Pa. – Four different Fighting Scots scored in double figures as the Edinboro women's basketball team defeated host Clarion 81-65 Monday night in PSAC West action.
The Fighting Scots took over the game in the third quarter. With 5:35 left in the frame, Clarion trimmed the Edinboro lead to 45-43. Edinboro scored the next 10 points capped by a
Monica Brown 3-pointer at the 3:00 mark to extend the lead to 55-43. The teams traded buckets with the Fighting Scots holding a 64-50 lead at the quarter's end.
The Edinboro lead would grow to 18, 71-53, after another Brown triple with 8:39 to play. Clarion trimmed the lead to 73-63 with a 10-2 spurt, but that was as close as the game would get as Edinboro with an 8-2 run of their own to close out the game.
The Scots jumped out to a 19-9 advantage hitting their first seven shots from the field including a trio of 3-point shots. Clarion answered with a 13-4 run to close the quarter and trim the lead to 23-22.
Brown tied her career-high with 17 points including going 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Ashten Boggs netted 16 points and seven rebounds.
Rana Elhusseini added 14 points, four board and four rebounds.
Bella Burrelli tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Sierra Bermudez led the Golden Eagles with 18 points while Cory Santoro added 14.
The two teams will square off on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
