Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second Half Rally by the Scots Falls Short as Lakers Take the Win

Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst took a 3-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon against Edinboro. The game saw Mercyhurst control the first half of play, whilst the second saw Edinboro push to the very end to reduce the deficit.

Edinboro started the game in a similar fashion to their last outing with some dangerous play in the opposition half, Clare Crossley and Reece Enochs both having attempts at goal in the first 10 minutes.

The Scots were unlocked after the first corner of the game made its way through a collection of players, where Dani Hartman was able to bundle the ball into the goal in the 12th minute of the match.

The Lakers kept the pressure in the Edinboro half and scored their second in the 19th minute, Karah Van Horn rounding the keeper and finishing.

Emily Mijares added a third just before halftime for Mercyhurst, in a half where they had nine attempts at goal to Edinboro's two.

The Fighting Scots had much more possession in the second half after a positive reaction at halftime. Edinboro had six attempts at goal in the second half, with Reece Enochs scoring her first goal of the season in the 75th minute. Some good link-up play by Edinboro's Madison Felton and Lexi Boyk created the opening, Boyk was awarded with the assist.

Lexi Boyk won Edinboro a penalty in the 87th minute after she was tripped in the penalty area after a terrific run from the wing. Maddie Elbro was equal to the penalty to keep the score at 3-1.

Edinboro can look to the second half as a positive and something to build upon at this early stage of the season. The Scots return to Sox Harrison Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 3  with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. against UPJ.
