Edinboro, Pa.-- The Edinboro volleyball team earned another commanding win on Tuesday night against nonconference opponent D'youville College in three sets (25-13, 25-19, 25-10). With the win, the Scots improved to (10-2) overall.
The Scots were back home at McComb Fieldhouse and displayed great efficiency for the home crowd. Edinboro finished the match with an outstanding (.358) hitting percentage with 40 kills in three sets. The Scots also reached ten serving aces for the third time this season.
In the opening set the two teams began frequently swapping leads. A kill from the Saints made the score 7-6 in favor of Edinboro. The Scots countered with seven-straight points to extend the lead to 14-6 in favor of Edinboro. The run was fueled by kills from the Scots, with four of the kills coming from Bella Burrelli. Edinboro finished the set by earning 10 of the final 12 points, to retire the set at 25-13 in favor of the Scots. Edinboro converted on over half of their attacks as they finished the set with an impressive (.571) clip. A kill from Jessie Michel would make Edinboro's first set win official.
In the second set Edinboro grabbed the initial lead and never looked back. Midway through the set, back-to-back kills from Burrelli extended the Scot's lead to seven points. But D'Youville continued to fight and put together a string of four-straight point later in the set. The run from the Saints narrowed the lead and Edinboro was only ahead 16-14. Eventually the Scots pulled away as they scored the final three points off errors by D'Youville. Edinboro won the set 25-19.
Edinboro's defense quickly closed the door in the third and final set as they only allowed ten points and held the Saints to a (-.071) hitting percentage. Early in the set Edinboro jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead off Burrelli's service. The run consisted of two aces and a kill from Burrelli. Later in the set, the Scots rattled off another seven-straight points that ended with a kill from Erica Sharp. Edinboro concluded the match in a dominate way. Back-to-back kills from Natalie Pallone transitioned into another ace from Burrelli. Finally, the match point came from a block that was assisted by Pallone and Sally Sterkel. Edinboro won the third set 25-10.
Bella Burrelli finished the match with 14 kills, six aces, and seven digs on a (.345) clip.
Alicia Eldredge posted a game-high 26 assists, along with six assists and five kills.
Sally Sterkel followed with eight kills on a (.889) clip along with two blocks.
Edinboro will be back in action on Friday night when they host Slippery Rock at 6 p.m.
