Indiana, Pa. – Edinboro were unlucky to find themselves on the back of a 3-1 loss to IUP on Wednesday evening. Edinboro controlled much of the first half but was unable to find the breakthrough goal. IUP made their chances count in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead before Devin Keidel grabbed a goal back for Boro. As Edinboro pushed for the tying goal IUP grabbed a third on the counter to ensure the result.
Edinboro was able to control much of the first half with the ball remaining in the IUP half for much of it. Both teams had four attempts at goal in the first period, Edinboro forced Samantha Gildner into two saves whilst Kaylee Lauriel had to make one.
The Fighting Scots looked most likely to take the lead and very nearly did when Lexi Boyk had a shot cleared off the line from six yards out.
The Crimson Hawks were much more assured in possession in the second half, their control provided them with the opening goal in the 61st minute through Hannah Scardina.
A second goal followed six minutes later when Kristen Finnerty broke down the right side to beat two defenders and finish well.
Edinboro was extremely unlucky not to be given a penalty in the 75th minute when Clare Crossley was hacked down in the area. The Scots earned a goal back through Devin Keidel's first collegiate goal in the 83rd minute. Annie Weimer got the assist through a good switch of play with Keidel finishing well.
With Edinboro pushing players forward in the final stages, IUP scored a late third goal. Kaylee Lauriel did well to save the first effort but the rebound found its way to Kristen Finnerty who finished over the regrouping Edinboro defenders for her second of the game.
A game of two halves, where Edinboro will feel unlucky as they were the better team after 45 minutes of play. Chances need to be taken when they present themselves, which IUP took and gave them the upper hand in the second half to take the result.
Edinboro returns to action next Wednesday, Sep. 21 at Sox Harrison Stadium against Clarion University, kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
