Edinboro, Pa.-- The Edinboro volleyball dropped a match on Saturday night against Indiana University of Pennsylvania in three sets (14-25, 13-25, 18-25). With the loss, the Scots fall to (11-3) overall.
In the opening set IUP grabbed a quick 8-3 lead over the Scots. Edinboro responded with a kill from Erica Sharp and a block from Jessie Michel in consecutive plays. The Crimson Hawks gained momentum to end the first set. IUP scored ten of the last 12 points of the set. IUP won the first set 25-14.
The second set was Edinboro's least consistent performance of the match. The Scot's were held to a (-.136) hitting percentage and produced five kills on the attack. IUP's attack created 13 kills on a (.333) hitting percentage. Early in the set the two teams from the PSAC West continued to trade leads. A kill from Sharp that was set up by Alicia Eldredge, tied things up at 8-8. IUP opened things up when they went on an 8-1 run. An IUP block retired the set at 25-13 in favor of the Crimson Hawks.
Edinboro continued to fight in the third set as they produced a match-high 19 points. Early in the set a kill from Michel cut the Crimson Hawk lead to just one point. Later in the set Bella Burrelli strung together four kills as IUP then only led 21-16. An Edinboro attack error retired the set in favor of IUP 25-18.
Edinboro will be back in action on Friday Sept. 23 when they host Mercyhurst University.
