Coach Soboleski Earns 500th Win over Mercyhurst

Edinboro, Pa.-- The Edinboro volleyball team defeated Mercyhurst in three sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-19), as head coach Missy Soboleski achieved her 500th career win. With the win the Scots are now (12-3) overall and (2-1) in conference play.  

It was another dominant performance overall for the Fighting Scots as they protected their home court over rival Mercyhurst. Edinboro finished the evening on the attack with 44 kills at on an efficient (.271) hitting percentage, while forcing the Lakers into 25 errors. 

In the opening set Edinboro jumped out to a quick 9-6 lead after a kill from Bella Burrelli. The Lakers countered later in the set with three-straight points, ending in a block to tie the set up at 15-15. The Scots fired back with three-straight points of their own after an ace from Alicia Eldredge put Edinboro ahead 21-18. A kill by Jessie Michel retired the first set at 25-21 in favor of Edinboro.  

Edinboro found themselves ahead early in the second set after five-straight points that included kills from Burrelli and Erica Sharp, as well as blocks from Eldredge and Sharp. Mercyhurst once again refused to go down easy as they answered with five in a row to tie things up at 12-12. Late in the set a kill by Mercyhurst cut the lead to 23-21 Edinboro. The Scots replied with kills from Sharp and Eldredge to win the second set 25-21.  

The third set was unlike the first two sets in terms of control. The Lakers were determined to steal a set and had built a lead midway through. A string of aces, blocks and kills put Mercyhurst ahead 13-11 over Edinboro. The Scots didn't give in and countered with three-straight points to regain the lead. Later Edinboro scored another three-straight points that was capped off with a red card from the Mercyhurst coaching staff. Finally, a kill from Natalie Pallone retired the match as Edinboro won in three sets.  

- Bella Burrelli finished with a team-high 12 kills (.321) and 10 digs  

- Sally Sterkel finished with nine kills (.400) and seven blocks 

- Alicia Eldredge finished with 34 assists and 16 digs which were both team highs 

Edinboro will be back in action tomorrow when they host Gannon at 3 pm inside McComb Fieldhouse.
