Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Soccer unlucky to drop points against Slippery Rock

Edinboro, Pa. – Women's soccer dropped a 1-0 result at home to Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon. Both teams on the season have struggled to find the goal and one goal was all it took to take victory from Edinboro in the second half.

Edinboro mounted some good pressure on the Rock in the first half with four chances coming in the opening 15 minutes. Reece Enochs had the best of the chances when a header was blocked just a couple of yards from the goal line.

Slippery Rock began to gain a foothold in the game thanks to stoppages that slowed the Edinboro momentum. Their best chance came five minutes before halftime with Ashley Rea having a driven shot across the goal saved by Kaylee Lauriel.

The Fighting Scots began the second period with half chances toward goal but were unable to test the Rock defense and goalkeeper enough to force a goal.

Slippery Rock made their chances count when Maddie DeLucio fired a driven strike from 20-yards into the bottom right corner with 20-minutes remaining. Jaime Dermotta was awarded the assist for the link-up play with her fellow midfielder to create the opening.

Edinboro replied instantly with chances of their own. They came closest when Lexi Boyk had an effort that was scrambled off the line and away from danger, with Edinboro players pleading for a goal. More shots followed from Boyk, Clare Crossley, and Maggie Hays but the score remained at 1-0 and the Rock were able to secure the victory in a nervy final 10-minutes for the visitors.

Edinboro out-shot their opponents with 13 attempts in total and seven on target. Multiple saves and team blocks kept Edinboro at bay, which on another day might have bounced in Boro's favor.

Kaylee Lauriel had four saves in the game from five shots on target and 11 overall.

Edinboro will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday, Sep 28. when they travel to California, Pa. to take on Cal U.
