Greensburg, Pa.-- The Edinboro volleyball team defeated Seton Hill University (25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 25-10) on Friday night. With the win, Edinboro improves to (13-4) overall and (3-2) in conference play.
In four sets played, Edinboro recorded 18 more kills and ten less errors than the Griffins. Edinboro finished with a (.323) hitting percentage compared to Seton Hill's (.110) clip.
In the opening set Edinboro jumped out to a fantastic start as they obtained an efficient (.522) hitting percentage along with 12 kills. Right away a kill from Natalie Pallone put Edinboro ahead 4-0. Later in the set, three consecutive kills from Bella Burrelli would extend the Scots lead to 14-7. Edinboro's momentum earned them the last three points of the set as they prevailed 25-14.
The Scots jumped out to another hot start in the second set. A 6-1 Edinboro lead was caused by two kills from Pallone, an ace from Burrelli and kills by Sally Sterkel and Jessie Michel. The Griffins countered with their own string of points. A block from Seton Hill suddenly put them ahead 13-10 over Edinboro. The Scots immediately countered with back-to-back kills from Pallone to regain the lead at 15-14. The two teams continued to swap leads until it was tied at 21-21. The Griffins pulled away by scoring the final four points of the set and advanced 25-21.
The third set consisted of Edinboro producing a match-high 17 kills as they fought to earn another set victory. Early in the set the two PSAC West teams continued to swap leads. After a set error from Edinboro, Seton Hill led 15-10. Edinboro then countered with six-straight points to regain the lead at 16-15. Burrelli retired the third set with one of her five aces on the evening, as Edinboro advanced 25-21.
In the fourth set Edinboro's defense held Seton Hill to a match-low ten points. Midway through the set, a kill from Erica Sharp put Edinboro ahead 17-5. A string of four consecutive points from Edinboro was fueled by kills from Sterkel and Alicia Eldredge as well as back-to-back aces from Burrelli. The match point came from an Edinboro block shared by Michel and Sharp. Edinboro won the fourth set 25-10.
