Men’s Basketball Falls to California

California, Pa. -- The Edinboro men's basketball team fell to California University of Pennsylvania 78-63 on Wednesday afternoon inside the Convocation Center, despite a double double from Kierell Green. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fall to (4-9) overall.

Off the opening tip it was California who struck first, as a three-pointer put the Vulcans ahead 19-9 early in the first half.

Over the next two minutes the Scots would string together a 9-1 run which cut the Cal lead to just two points. During the run it was Jayden Harper who sparked the Edinboro offense with five points of his own during the run including a three-pointer from deep.

The Vulcans countered with their own 17-4 run toward the end of the half, which gave them their biggest lead of the half at 41-27. Before the half Green connected on consecutive three-pointers to get within ten points of Cal. At the half Edinboro trailed Cal 33-41.

Right out of the halftime break Edinboro quickly cut the eight-point lead into half with back-to-back layups from Dominique Keyes. Edinboro's back court continued to keep the Scots within striking distance with consistent buckets from Naim Miller and Harper.

The Vulcans continued to hit shots down the stretch including a 10-2 run which extended their lead to double digits. Cal's five three-pointers in the second half helped them sustain a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. As time expired Cal earned a PSAC West win over the Fighting Scots with a 78-63 final.

Miller finished with a team-high 19 points and shot 50% from downtown. Green posted 17 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Edinboro will be back in action on Saturday when they host Seton Hill University at 3:00 p.m.
