Women’s Basketball Comeback Bid Comes Up Short Against Seton Hill

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team trailed by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter, but battled back before ultimately falling 83-77 to visiting Seton Hill Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
 
Courtney Tomas pushed the Seton Hill lead to 68-47 with a layup at the 7:07 mark of the fourth quarter. The Scots would score the next 13 points with Rana Elhusseini leading the way with six to trim the lead to 68-60 with 4:32 to play.
 
The Griffins went on an 8-5 spurt to extend the advantage to 76-65 with 2:39 remaining in the fourth. Maura Suman hit a pair of free throws before Hayley Sims hit a layup and a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 76-72 with 1:23 on the clock.
 
Sakeria Haralson hit a layup but Sims answered with a triple to make it a one-score game 78-75 with 53 seconds to play. The Griffins went 5-of-6 from the line to hold off the Edinboro charge and set the final.
 
In the first, Bailie Brinson hit a pair of free throw to make the score 14-13 Griffins at the 2:54 mark. Seton Hill answered with a 9-2 spurt to take a 23-15 advantage after one.
 
The Griffin lead swelled to 31-19 on a Tomas layup at the 6:57 mark of the second. Sims scored the next five points to cut the lead to 31-24. Hallie Cowan and Sims traded 3-pointers. Seton Hill went on an 8-1 run to end the quarter making the score 42-28 Seton Hill at the brake.
 
Seton Hill scored the first four points of the third extending the lead to 45-28. Edinboro answered with back-to-back triples from Macie Jarrett and Elhusseini to trim the lead to 11. The Scots would get as close as 11 twice more in the quarter, but head to the fourth trailing 62-46.
 
Sims paced the Fighting Scot offense with 18 points, four steals, two rebounds and two assists. Elhusseini added a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds to go with three assists. Lauren Mullen and Bella Burrelli each notched 10 points.
 
Hlene Cowan led the Griffins with 22 points while Halie Cowan notched 21. Alie Seto finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Slippery Rock. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
