Slippery Rock, Pa. .-- The Edinboro women's basketball team outlasted host Slippery Rock 67-63 Wednesday night in PSAC West action at Morrow Field House.
In the fourth, Slippery Rock scored the first four points of the quarter to grab a 49-48 advantage on a Kelley McKnight layup at 9:13.
Macie Jarrett gave the Scots the lead back with a 3-pointer at the 8:28 mark. Jarrett would score four more in a row to extend the advantage to 55-49 with 7:31 to play.
McKnight cut the lead to 55-51, but six straight points from Edinboro extended the advantage to 61-51 halfway through the fourth. The Rock answered back with an 8-0 run of their own to trim the lead back to 61-59.
Ashten Boggs stopped the run, but the teams traded baskets with Edinboro holding a 65-63 lead with 48 seconds on the clock.
Rana Elhusseini split a pair of free throws with 13 seconds to play and Jarrett hit one more after a McKnight missed triple to set the final.
The teams got off to a slow start with Slippery Rock holding a 6-5 advantage until Jarrett hit a 3-pointer at the 2:08 mark of the first to make it 8-6 Scots. Elhusseini scored five straight to extend the Edinboro lead to 13-6. Bella Long scored the last bucket of the quarter to trim the Edinboro advantage to 13-8 after one.
Slippery Rock opened the second with a 15-5 spurt fueled by three 3-pointers from Long to take a 23-18 lead. Layups by
Bailie Brinson and
Lauren Mullen trimmed the Rock lead to 23-22. After an Isabellah Middleton layup, the Scots scored the next eight points getting five from Elhusseini and a triple from Jarrett to go back up 30-25. The Rock scored the next four to cut the advantage to 30-29, but Edinboro scored four straight of their own to take a 34-29 lead into the locker room.
After the break, Edinboro opened with a 7-2 run to push its lead to 41-31. The Rock scored six straight capped by a McKnight layup to pull within 41-37, but the Scots answered again with
Bella Burrelli scoring four and
Maura Suman hitting a 3-pointer to go up 48-37 at the 2:57 mark of the third.The Rock finished the third with eight straight points to cut the Edinboro lead to 48-45 after the third.
Elhusseini led all scorers with 27 points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists. Jarrett finished with 14 points and five boards. Burrelli was the Scots leading rebounder with nine boards.
Kennedy Middleton paced the Rock with 15 points. Isabellah Middleton recorded double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Scots continue their two-game road swing with a trip to Clarion on Saturday. Tip off against the Golden Eagles is slated for 1 p.m.
