Slippery Rock, Pa. -- Despite matching his season-high, 15 points from Jack Gallagher wasn't enough as the Edinboro men's basketball team fell to Slippery Rock University 76-63 on Wednesday night inside Morrow Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fell to (4-11) overall.
Off the opening tip it was all Slippery Rock who started on a strong 8-0 run, where three different players scored. The next possession Gallagher would find Kierell Green for three, which put the Scots up on the board.
With 6:59 left in the half Green grabbed an Edinboro miss and went right back up for a monstrous dunk. Green's dunk cut Slippery Rock's lead to just two points. The next play Gallagher would take it on his own straight to the rim for a bucket which tied the game at 19-19 and completed Edinboro's resilient 7-0 run.
A few minutes later Edinboro would spark another run, this time it was five consecutive points which helped the Scots earn their first lead of the game. A layup from Dominique Keyes and a shot from deep from Naim Miller put the scots ahead 24-21 with four minutes until the half.
Slippery Rock ended the half by outscoring the Scots 7-4 and held a slim 28-27 lead going into the break.
To begin the second half the two PSAC West teams would continue to trade baskets after the Rock built a seven-point lead. With less than ten minutes to play Edinboro's young backcourt would create instant offense. Jaden Harper connected on step back three-pointer which was followed up by a steal and bucket from Easton Fulmer. The quick strike cut the Rock's lead to just six points.
The Rock would counter with a 7-1 run to establish another comfortable lead. Two big dunks from Slippery Rock in the final minute put them ahead 76-63 and clinched the win.
Gallagher finished with a team-high 15 points on 70% shooting from the field along with four rebounds. Green was one rebound short of another double double with his 13 points and nine rebounds performance.
Edinboro will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Clarion to take on Golden Eagles at 3:00 p.m.
