Men’s Basketball Takes Down Clarion with Five Players in Double Figures

Clarion, Pa. -- With five players in double figures the Edinboro men's basketball team earned a strong 73-69 conference road win over Clarion University on Saturday afternoon. With the win Edinboro improves to (3-8) in the PSAC and (5-11) overall.

Off the opening tip neither team could sustain a lead of more than five points. In the opening minutes it was Rashon Barron on the inside making things happen for the Edinboro offense. Barron scored six early points including a fastbreak dunk.

With 13:34 left in the half Kierell Green took over for a few minutes and helped tie the game at 14-14. Green was scoring inside and out, first a vicious dunk that was followed by a catch and shoot three next time down.

Later it was Dominique Keyes who found Jaden Harper for his second three-pointer of the game. Then Keyes followed with his own finish at the rim which extended the Scots lead to four points.

As the halftime buzzer sounded Bryce Spriggs found the bottom of the net on a smooth layup to give Edinboro a 32-29 lead.

To start the second half Naim Miller would heat up and pace the Edinboro offense with six consecutive points to keep them ahead 41-38. Later, with nine minutes remaining Keyes would finish another shot in the paint to tie the game at 51-51.

Moments later Harper connected on his third triple of the game which was followed by a pull up jumper from Miller. The quick 5-0 run allowed Edinboro to break away with a 58-53 lead. With 2:38 left Keyes hit a huge three-pointer which kept Edinboro ahead by six points.

With 23 seconds remaining a three from Clarion cut the Edinboro lead to just one point. The Golden Eagles were forced to foul and sent Green to the line to make both free throws. Clarion countered with two free throws on the other end which gave Edinboro the ball again up by one point.

This time it was Miller at the line making the first and missing the second. With a valiant effort Miller grabbed his own miss and proceeded to be fouled once more. Miller would ice the game by making two more free throws putting Edinboro ahead 73-69 with no time remaining.

Miller led Edinboro with 19 points along with six rebounds. Keyes added in another double-double with his 13 points and 11 rebounds. Harper and Green each added 11 points and Barron had 10 points.

Edinboro will be back in action on Monday night when they host nationally top ranked IUP at 7:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse
